Dr. rer. pol. Rio Deswandi

Expertise and Research Interest: political ecology, environmental and natural resources governance, management of toxic and chemicals substances
Dr. Deswandi obtained his Dr. rer. pol from the University of Bremen with a thesis entitled "Understanding Institutional Dynamics: The Emergence, Persistence, and Change of Institutions in Fisheries in Spermonde Archipelago, South Sulawesi, Indonesia" (2012). Rio's primary passion has always been political ecology, especially in coastal and small islands. He started his career as a biologist before entering the realm of social science. Currently, Rio works for United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) for projects related to the management and phasing out of Persistent Organic Pollutants.
